In the spring of 1995, long-time sonoma resident Peter Hodgson, was up late trying in vain to name his new business. As he mulled over caffeinated terms, he begged his golden retriever to stop distracting him with her insistent barking which in dog speak meant: "Please throw that tennis ball one more time!"  The it came to him: More Bark, Less Bite, and thus began Barking Dog Roasters.

The Barking Dog opened in May of 1995 in a small space with one purpose: to provide quality coffee to the residents of Sonoma , California. The lack of a quality cup in Sonoma had long been a source of frustration for our family of coffee fanatics . Since inception over a decade ago, we have grown. Over the years, our wholesale bean business grew and our community learned where to get a great cup of Joe. We moved our headquarters and roasting operation in the summer of 2003 to 18133 Sonoma Highway. In the Summer of 2005 we opened our second location. This café caters to central Sonoma and is convinently located in the Marketplace shopping center just a block from Sonoma 's historic plaza. 201 W. Napa Street #9.

Community —Sonoma is an amazing community and has been home to the Barking Dog since its conception, we give back to this community through numerous donations to a variety of noble causes and providing inviting places to meet, perform, or simply relax.
